It was a quiet afternoon in the neighborhood when a faint, high-pitched meow echoed from the alley behind an old building. The kitten was trapped in a deep, muddy drainpipe, shivering and soaked. Its small face peeked up, eyes wide with fear, as it meowed nonstop for help. The hole was too narrow for anyone to reach in by hand, and the kitten was too young and weak to climb out on its own.
